Solution Having an online store, contrary to popular belief, does not have much to do with the actual server. To set up a successful online shop you will need all three of the following:

1. A online shop software - popular ones include ZenCart, CubeCart, and OsCommerce - These software looks after displaying your inventory, accept payments and also have a built in shopping cart system.It also looks after your customer's user accounts. This serves as the link between your customers purchasing products and you receiving the order. This software connects to your merchant account through your SSL.

2. Your merchant account allows you to accept payments. The merchant account is set up between you and a merchant provider, and does not have anything to do with us - your store software connects through our server, to the merchant provider's server and sends it the credit card details your customer has entered. The merchant provider then charges the customer's card, and moves the funds into your account. The customers credit card information is encrypted when been sent from your server to the merchants for safety reasons. This is why SSL certificate is needed.

3. The SSL certificate encrypts any data been sent, so that even if someone gets hold of the data it will be impossible to read the contents. SSL certificates shows your visitors that your business is legitimate, and you will not attempt to defraud them in any way.
